What is International Week?

Under the umbrella of the global International Week Conference, the International Week brings together highly qualified, cosmopolitan and motivated students and graduates from various countries and cultures to stimulate and promote the cultural, social and economic exchange between European and international students.

The “International Week Cologne” offers (economics) students of partner universities, regardless of their financial status, the opportunity to familiarise themselves with NRW and especially the Cologne region, as a business and cultural region. Moreover, we provide an insight into German culture and mentality. Besides the foreign students, a large number of interested and committed students from Cologne are also integrated into the event. This should provide a means for students from Cologne to promote their professional and personal development through the conception and implementation of the “International Week Cologne” on the one hand, and through participation in an “International Week” abroad, on the other.

These goals are achieved through a varied programme organised around four main areas. The programme comprises, among other things, company visits and presentations, workshops, sightseeing tours, as well as side events promoting historical and cultural awareness. Besides this, participants introduce their home countries by way of presentations, an international dinner event and discussions.

What is the typical procedure at an International Week?

The procedure of an International Week is often standardised beyond country borders and follows a four-pillar model. This procedure can be clearly demonstrated using the International Week in Cologne as example.

Which countries are represented in the International Week network.

Here you will find all the countries which take part in the International Week.

Who can take part?

Every student or alumni of the University of Cologne who is simultaneously a member of the PIM & CEMS student and alumni club Cologne (reg. association) is, in principle, entitled to participate in an International Week. The individual return trips are organised by the students themselves. Costs for the majority of the individual activities and events in the supporting programme are covered by the guest organisation.

In order to participate in an International Week, a CV together with a completed participation application form must be sent to the International Week Committee following tendering for the desired International Week (the contact details for contact persons are given with each individual announcement, which can then be used to request  the participation application form to be filled in).

Participation in several International Weeks per year is only possible in exceptional cases.

How does the selection procedure work?

Upon receipt of application, an assessment is made of the candidate’s CV, participation form and club membership status.

Active involvement in the PIM & CEMS club, the number of International Weeks already participated in and the letter of motivation all form part of the decision-making criteria in the selection process.

After expiry of the application period, the applicant is promptly informed of the status of his application. Upon acceptance, he is asked to make a binding commitment to participation in the corresponding International Week.  Through acceptance, the participant simultaneously commits himself to participate as helper in the International Week in Cologne.

Up to two participants may be delegated abroad per International Week. The final decision to take either one or two participants in the guest country is made by the organisation team of that relevant country.

Your respective board member from the International department is gladly available for further information or enquiries.
