Feeling at home during the semester abroad – Guest students are well looked after by the PIM& CEMS club

A focal point of our club activities is the support provided to guest students, who study for 1-2 semesters at the WiSo Faculty of the University of Cologne.

We are primarily concerned with making student life for our guest students here in Cologne as comfortable as possible through a warm welcome and wide-ranging support.

This begins with a “Buddy programme”, organized together with the Centre for International Relations (ZIB), in which every guest student is assigned a personal contact person who provides him/her with individual advice and assistance during the entire semester.

In addition, the PIM & CEMS Club organises two Welcome Weeks at the beginning of each semester with numerous joint tours, excursions and parties. The aim is to get to know the city, the university and the culture, but also the Cologne students and the exchange students themselves.

The club also organizes many events throughout the semester, including, amongst other things, sporting events.

Buddy Programme

The beginning of many international friendships - the Buddy Program of the ZIB and the PIM & CEMS Club

The Center for International Relations (ZIB) and the PIM & CEMS Club organize a Buddy Programme each semester for incoming students of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences.

This way, guest students have a student of the University of Cologne as their dedicated contact person, who can be of help with any questions regarding student life at the WiSo Faculty. In addition, the majority of the buddies have themselves studied abroad, and can therefore easily relate to the situation  of a guest student.

The Buddies are available to the guest students as contact persons during their entire stay. Many international friendships have developed through joint activities, such as, for example, during the phase “Welcome Weeks”!

All guest students and buddies are regularly informed of current activities through our e-mailing list. Should you have any problems receiving our e-mails or are not  included in our e-mailing list as yet, please send us a short mail to club@pimandcems.de

Welcome Weeks

Take part in great events, meet friendly people and discover Cologne together – The PIM & CEMS Welcome Weeks

The PIM & CEMS club organises two Welcome Weeks each semester especially for guest students. The first takes place before the start of the language course, and the second at the start of semester.

The goal of the Welcome Weeks is the integration of guest students into student life at the University of Cologne. Through joint activities, guest students have the opportunity to meet fellow guest students and to get to know their buddy. Through excursions and visits, guest students gain an insight into the University of Cologne, the city and surroundings, as well as its culture and mentality.

The Welcome Weeks comprise of numerous activities such as a guided tour of the university, a guided tour of Cologne, visits to museums, a guided tour of the Haus der Geschichte (German House of History) in Bonn, lunch at the university canteen, bowling events and parties, notably the big Welcome Party.

Naturally, all guest and Buddies are cordially welcome to take part in this programme!
